What To Do After Graduation?

by Ciera Sterling

College seniors across the country like myself, are preparing to graduate. We find ourselves asking the age old question ; “Whats next?” Some continue to intern at potential jobs, while others take a leap of faith and fall into the seemingly never ending job search. Contemplating  between the two I wonder, whats more valuable and will help me in the long run.  To get a better prospective I asked two graduates about their decisions .

Shemekia who has a B.B.A. in Management went straight into the job market after graduation. Her viewpoints were that she felt she enough experience to start a career in the beginning. However Shemekia did admit after working for a few  years in a unrelated field ,has hindered her getting a career started into what she really wants to do because of lack of experience.

Brandon has a B.A. in Mass Media after graduation he decide to continue to intern at the local radio station. He knew that in order to have the career he wanted starting at bottom was the only way. Brandon does wish he was compensated and not have to work a part-time job to stay afloat. He realizes that this was going to be the trade off when continuing his internship, but securing him a career in the end.

For me money is the motive , I honestly think taking that leap of faith into the job market can’t hinder me as much as people would like to think. I feel like you can gain experience other ways besides interning again, that’s just my opinion and what I believe is good for me after I graduate. For others it could be the total opposite; they might want to continue to intern for experience at potential jobs. To my fellow graduates, this decision is going to be a  tough one, but as the last weeks go by choose what’s best for you and may your futures be bright.
