Dormitory Name Change in Full Affect by: Courtney Holloway

Savannah GA—Savannah State University is set to debut the name change of one of the newly constructed dormitories, Tiger Pointe.

The freshmen dormitory is set to become named after the late Richard R. Wright, Sr. An official renaming ceremony and unveiling of Wright’s bust will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 11, on the SSU campus in conjunction with activities celebrating the inauguration of Pres. Cheryl D. Dozier.

This will be the first dormitory name change under the presidency of the university’s first female president. Many students are anxiously awaiting the name change.

Many have also expressed their excitement of being a part of history. Brian Torres, sophomore and biology major expressed his feelings of the historic moment in a breif interview. “I honestly didn’t know who Richard Wright was but I think this will be a good change and it feels good to be a part of the name change while I’m still a student here at Savannah State” Torres then further states that he could see himself telling new freshmen and transfer students about the new Wright Hall.

Dynastie Huston, Junior and Mass Communications major expressed her feelings also of the newly change. “I feel that we should have named the oldest building after Mr. Wright; I feel the name change will be good but I’m also neutural about the change for other reasons” as Huston smiled.

The university has a bright and prosporious future and the name change is only one of the value added features in store.
