SSU Pitcher Drafted by Los Angeles Angels

As the 2014-1015 season for Savannah State’s baseball team continues, a deep bullpen has lost a major and competitive part of its team. Former Savannah State Pitcher Kyle McGowin, was drafted in the fifth round to the Los Angeles Angels.

Pitcher Kyle McGowin, who was an ace pitcher for the Tigers, was drafted to play professional baseball after the end of the 2012-2013 season. According to the SSU Athletics website, McGowin was honored at the Georgia Dugout Club in January in Atlanta.

McGowin finished the 2013 season with a 12-2 record, 2.02 ERA. and the Savannah State single-season record of 135  strikeouts. He also pitched 120.1 innings.

McGowin was also selected to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association’s 18th Annual All-America first team, won MEAC Pitcher of the Year, made MEAC all-tournament team and was also a finalist for the 2013 Golden Spikes Award.
