Due to the expected winter weather event, the university will close at 4 p.m. today for all non-essential personnel. Evening classes are cancelled. Offices will also be closed. The university will also be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, January 29, for non-essential personnel and students. The university is expected to reopen on Thursday, January 30.
Please note – No CAT service will be available throughout the County (including SSU on-campus and Express Service) on Wednesday, January 29. CAT expects to provide regular service on Thursday.
Please note the following from CAT for today (Tuesday, January 28):
· SSU On-Campus Shuttle Service will end at 6:30pm
· Express Shuttle will leave SSU Student Union at 5:45pm with a final stop at Armstrong at 6:15pm
· All CAT services throughout the County will end at 6:30 pm
At this time, CAT has not made a decision about services on Wednesday. We will notify you by e-mail when more information is available.
Savannah State University (SSU) will host world-renowned poet Nikki Giovanni at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 30, in the Student Union ballroom. During the two-hour session, Giovanni will share some of her written works and speak on the topic of “Writing and Empowerment,” describing the role writing has played in her life, outlook and success. The session, which includes a period for questions, book signings, autographs and photos, is free and open to the public.
SSU will observe national freedom day on Friday January 31st from 11am to 1pm in Elmore Theater located inside the King Frazier Student Center. During the program, two professors will discuss their work on “The Presidential and Congressional Documents on the First African-American National Holiday: National Freedom Day” and students who have completed research about the observance will give reflections.
