Savannah State’s Student Government Association kicked off SGA Week this past Sunday with a worship service at St. Philip AME Church. Service started at 10:00 am for college day at St. Philip. Buses were provided for students to attend church service. “Everything was beautiful. Church was grand. We gave a total of five scholarships… and ten gift bags,” says SGA President, Natavis Harris. On Sunday evening, SGA hosted a pool party located in Wiley Wilcox at 7:00 pm. Wiley Wilcox was filled with the student body. SGA President, Natavis Harris was more than pleased with the event’s outcome. He said, “A lot of people came out. We were nervous because we thought we didn’t promote enough but we did!”

Today SGA hosted the Meet and Greet in the student ballroom. This event gave students the opportunity to socialize and get to know the new SGA members. It also gave candidates running for office the chance to introduce themselves to the student body. The event had a live performance from the band, Nickel Bag of Funk and refreshments were served.

Upcoming events include:

Tuesday: Miss SSU will be having Queen’s Tea for the ladies and SGA’s President will be having Men’s Smoker for the men. Both of these events will be located in the Student Ballroom and start at 6:00 pm. SGA President, Natavis Harris and Miss SSU, Duana Revere, are both excited about these upcoming events. “We have a special guest coming out but we don’t want to name any names, but it’s going to be a grand finale!” says SGA President, Natavis Harris. Men’s Smoker is an empowerment event for the men on campus. Miss SSU, Duana Revere, says “I’m excited about my tea party tomorrow. It’s called to Magnify Our Women Tea Social. Its to motivate the women upon our campus, appearance on campus, and motivation skills.”

Wednesday: The annual Crank That Cafe will be held in the King Frazier Dining Facility at 6:00 pm. Good food and good music will be provided.

Thursday: SGA will be hosting Tiger skate night in Tiger Arena. “It’s the first that Savannah State has ever had. Make sure you get your tickets,” says SGA President, Natavis Harris.
